This morning meteorologist Bill Evans was at the Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center in Huntington, Long Island.

"Little Shelter" is Suffolk County's oldest humane society and has been around since 1927. It was started by a woman who wanted to fix the mistreatment of animals in the area.

This year is the shelter's 80th anniversary.

There are about 340 cats and dogs at the Little Shelter. Most of the animals are pound rescues, meaning that their time was up at the pound. The pound normally gives the shelter a call and asks them for their help. The cat or dog is then brought to Little Shelter.

The shelter does not euthanize animals, the animals live there until they are adopted.
