Ringo & Dingo

Young

Ringo (Grey Tabby) and Dingo (Orange Tabby) are two special brothers that are looking for the special someone. They are both about one year old and neutered. They were found abandoned and were luckily rescued by a good Samaritan.Unfortunately they tested positive for Feline Leukemia. This is a disease that was transmitted to them by their mom. They are both very healthy and showing no ill effects. They can live for years with this disease. The main issue is that they cannot be around other cats, or have to live with other Fe Leuk positive cats.

They are absolute sweethearts and are very snuggly. They must stay together as they are very attached to one another. If you are interested in these two, please email tootlelee@optonline net. They are not at the shelter but at our sanctuary Upstate NY. Arrangements can be made after proper screening.

Allie

Young

Allie was living on the streets of New Orleans after Katrina hit the Gulf area. After she was rescued, she was brought back to Little Shelter to recover from her ordeal. Happily she is doing very well. She is a young cat (about 1 year old), very playful and affectionate. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with heartworm. Since there is no safe treatment for cats for heartworm, she is not on medication. Generally, cats recover on their own.

She would need a quiet home where she can continue to recover and continue to feel safe and secure. She is currently in foster care with one of our volunteers. If you should wish to meet this special lady, please send an email to her foster mom at: dorothy_macleod@adp.com.

Torta and Amber

Baby

THIS IS A COURTESY POSTING. PLEASE CONTACT MARIA BELOW TO MEET THESE BEAUTIFUL BABIES. THEY ARE NOT AT THE SHELTER. Two beautiful and friendly kittens for adoption. Torta and Amber are spayed, have had their shots and were wormed. They were born without eyelids but have the personality to make up for it. They need a special inside home and will give you plenty of love in return. Please call Maria at: cell: 516-527-327 home:631-242-1862

Mizzy

Young

Mizzy is an adorable young brown tabby female. She loves people and is very playful. Unfortunately, Mizzy has chronic sinus condition that would require occasional medication. She would therefore do best in a loving home with an understanding owner who would be willing to monitor her condition and give her antibiotics when necessary.

Muncee
Buster

Senior

Muncee is a 9 year old, neutered male, Poodle mix that was surrendered tot he NYC Animal Control Center because they couldn't care for him anymore. Unfortunately, they had not taken very good care of him while they had him. He was severely matted, so badly that he was unable to walk. The mats were all removed from the poor baby and his muscles had atrophied somewhat in the back legs. He will require some daily short walks to help the muscle tone come back. He does have some health issues and will require daily medication. He has a low thyroid, which is a pill twice daily. He also has an enlarged heart and a collapsing trachea, which causes him to cough.

He is a nice boy that deserves a home that will finally take care of him. He is good with other dogs and appears housebroken.

9/6/05 Update: Muncee is doing great. He was diagnosed with Addison's disease and will require monthly injections. He is doing great and has really come out of his shell. He is good with other dogs provided they aren't too much in his face. He loves to play with squeaky toys and tennis balls. He is still "grumpy" sometimes but is feeling so much better

Daisy

Young

Daisy is a four year old, female, spayed Pit Bull Terrier mix. This poor girl has been through a lot and deserves a family to love her for who she is. She was originally brought to us as a puppy, found as a stray. She has always been fearful of people she doesn't know. She was adopted several times while still a puppy, through no fault of her own.

Her last home had her for three years and returned her because she was getting remarried and moving to Florida and wouldn't take her with her. Daisy was devastated. She is needs a home that will understand her fearfulness and put her away when people come over to the home. She needs a quiet home without a bunch of traffic. She is housebroken, good with other dogs and well mannered inside.

Daisy just loves the car and loves to go for long walks. In this picture she was on her way to Smith's Point for a day of lounging in the sand, swimming in the ocean and chasing sea gulls.

Daisy May

Young

ADOPTED

Daisy May is a two year old, female, Golden mix that was rescued from a shelter in Virginia. She was reluctantly signed over by her family because they couldn't afford the hip surgery she requires. Daisy May has severe hip dysplasia. She will have the hip surgery while in our care and then she will be available for adoption. She is a great dog that would do great with kids and other dogs. Great first family dog.

Sharon

Young

Sharon is a very special girl that is ready for adoption as of yet. She was rescued from the streets of New Orleans, five months after Hurricane Katrina flooded her home. She was found running with a pack of dogs and had to be humanely trapped as she was so frightened of people. Somehow she survived a hurricane and the worst natural disaster. She now has the hardest job in her life, to get over her intense fear of people. We don't know if she was feral prior to the hurricane, or if the trauma she endured made her so terrified, but no matter what, she is with us now and we will work to help her trust humans again.

Buster
Buster

Adult

Buster is a one year old, neutered male, Rottie/Terrier mix. He was found wandering the streets and is now looking for his forever home. He is a handsome boy that may need some indoor work as he appears to have been predominately an outside dog. He loves to go for walks and is good with older children ( a bit too active for little kids).

After having been with us for awhile Buster developed trouble with his eyes. He has a chronic eye condition that is being maintained with daily oral medication as well as daily eye drops. He will require continued medical care regarding his eyes and at some point it is likely he will completely lose his vision. We are doing everything to ensure that happens much later in life.

Courtney

Senior

Courtney is a 10-12 year old, female, Yorkie that was rescued from the NYC Animal Control Shelter. She was brought in tremendously overweight, filled with fluid of untreated Cushing's Disease. We immediately ran tests and discovered the Cushing's Disease and started treatment. She has lost a couple of a pounds but still have a few to go. She is tolerating the treatment well. She is in a foster home while she recovers from a severe upper respiratory infection. After she is regulated and doing well, she will have a mammary tumor removed.

She is a great little lady that is housebroken if kept on a schedule, loves kids and other animals (dogs and cats). She is just a sweetheart of a girl and despite feeling quite lousy, is always waiting with a tail wag.
