Trailor is everyone's favorite dog at Little Shelter. He is one of those
everydog's dog.
Trailor was essentially the pack leader of all of the dogs at Little
Shelter. He gets along with most dogs because he commands respect from them.
At Little Shelter, it was not uncommon for people to use Trailor to
socialize the other dogs at the shelter, whether it was a mouthy puppy or a hyperactive
adult. Trailor helped teach the other dogs at the shelter everything from bite inhibition
to coming when called.
But, unfortunately, common sense dog owners have never adopted Trailor.
Trailor is a very dominant dog who is also very territorial. He has a problem with
strangers entering his surroundings and will bite strange people under those
circumstances. But once Trailor is good with you, he is great with you, and he does not
bite people that he knows and loves.
Trailor just needs owners who are willing to put him away when strangers
come over and who will properly introduce him to people who come over regularly.
Unfortunately, Trailor has never been lucky enough to get such a permanent home.
Trailor currently lives in a foster home at the sanctuary with his foster
parent and seven other dogs. He is housebroken, crate-trained, and has no separation
anxiety problems.
Update 7/10/06: Oh, my sweet boy! Trailor is doing
better since an attack of Vestibular disease which causes a head tilt and
loss of balance. It is a disease common in elderly dogs. He received some
holistic treatments, as there is no known cure for it and is doing well. His
head still tilts to the side a bit and he is a bit wobbly at times but loves
to go for his runs in the woods. He rooms with Cocoa - his best buddy! He
came to us in 1996 and was about 2 years old.
We spay and neuter all of our animals as
soon as is medically possible. The miniminal adoption donation paid upon adoption includes
all the medical procedures that we have done on the animal being adopted,
including the spaying and neutering.
