Walker is a survivor! He has survived what no human or animal should ever
have to survive - the fury and aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Not only did
he survive the devastation reaped upon his home, he survived another five
months living on the ravaged streets of New Orleans with his sister Mia. We
can't imagine what life was like for Walker and Mia, scavenging for food,
never knowing where their next meal was coming from. What we do know is that
their amazing survival instincts kept them alive long enough to be rescued
by the volunteers who gave their time so selflessly to help the innocent
victims of Katrina. After spending time at 'Celebration Station', the
abandoned shopping mall used as headquarters for The Humane Society of The
United States, and other animal rescue organizations, Walker and Mia, along
with many other dogs, made the long journey by road to Little Shelter. Once
at Little Shelter, these traumatized animals received lots of love and TLC
and all were eventually adopted into loving homes...all..with the exception
of Walker! Now more than 4 years after that tragic day, Walker is still
waiting at Little Shelter for his perfect family to take him home. We've
learned a lot about Walker in the time that he has been with us. Walker is a
gentleman - quiet and unassuming. He spends his days with his doggy
girlfriend Maggie, and then retires to one of our offices where he snuggles
up in a big soft bed for the night. Walker enjoys going for slow strolls,
romping in the enclosed back acre at the shelter, and munching on his
favorite treats including Dingo Bones, beef knucklebones and hot dogs.
Walker has grown accustomed to living the bachelor lifestyle, so he prefers
a quiet home without children or small animals. Walker would make a great
companion. Come on in and meet him!
We spay and neuter all of our animals as soon as is
medically possible. The minimal adoption donation paid upon adoption includes all the
medical procedures that we have done on the animal being adopted,
including the spaying and neutering. |
